Reconstructed Stone Precast Concrete Cladding

Description

Reconstructed stone precast concrete panels, sometimes described as reconstituted or artificial stone, are concrete units where a specific concrete mix and surface finish has been designed to resemble natural stone. A wide range of natural stones can be imitated - such as Bath stone, Portland stone, Stainton stone and red terracotta - and finishes can include acid-etched, smooth or coarse ground, grit or sand-blasted, rubbed or polished.

Reconstructed stone can be successfully combined with natural stone-faced panels - using the natural stone on lower levels or on more visible elevations, and the reconstructed stone elsewhere. Highly articulated designs can be accommodated by the mouldable reconstructed stone mix.

Benefits

Reconstructed stone precast:

  • Combines a replica natural stone appearance with the durability and other benefits of precast concrete panels.
  • More econimical than traditional methods.
  • Enables faster programme times - not affected by weather or labour shortages.
  • Improves buildability - early enclosure of dry envelope enables follow-on trades to start sooner.
  • Produces a high standard of workmanship in factory conditions - reduces potential for accidents, addresses on-site skill shortage.

Has a high quality finish that can be left exposed - concrete's thermal properties can be exploited in low-energy buildings.

Process

Reconstructed stone is manufactured in the same way as precast concrete units.
