Trent to clad two car parks in Newcastle & Manchester city centre redevelopment schemes

Trent has recently secured two cladding contracts for car park projects at city centre redevelopment schemes in Newcastle and Manchester, the former using precast concrete and the latter using GRC (glass reinforced concrete).

Concrete's inherent durability and impact resistance, combined with the buildability benefits accruing from prefabricated elements, make precast and GRC ideal cladding materials for car park projects.

Trent has just started on site at a car park forming part of the Spinningfields development, which will provide 375,000m2 of high-quality commercial, civic, residential, retail and open space in the heart of Manchester. Trent's £403,000 contract covers 2100 square metres of reconstructed red Sandstone GRC spandrel panels in various sizes. The units vary considerably, but are typically 3m long and 1.5m high - the largest feasible size for a GRC panel, thus enabling rapid erection. Carey Jones Architects' original design intent was for the cladding to be in Manchester red sandstone to complement surrounding buildings. Specifying reconstructed stone GRC enabled large panels to be incorporated into the cladding design, and enhanced both the aesthetics and buildability of the project.

In early March, Trent starts work on the second contract on St. James Boulevard in Newcastle and again this car park forms part of a city centre redevelopment scheme. Trent's £397,000 contract covers 233 square metres of white reconstructed stone spandrel panels running around the car park, together with 582 square metres of matching cladding panels on the gable ends. In addition, Trent is producing 318 square metres of column casings in a buff coloured reconstructed stone finish.
