Trent Concrete wins follow-on cladding contract for AstraZeneca
Following on from previous cladding contracts at AstraZeneca's main research and development facility at Alderley Park near Manchester, Trent Concrete has recently commenced further works at the company's Restaurant and Office Building (ROB) in nearby Macclesfield.
Trent's £235,000 contract covers the same specification Crosland Hill Hard York stone-faced cladding panels as on the earlier development. For the ROB, Trent is erecting 400 square metres of Hardwall(TM) insulated sandwich cladding panels and 80 square metres of single skin precast panels, both faced with York stone. The York stone is being used to provide a focus to the site entrance.
Hardwall(TM) was specified in order to alleviate access, time and manual handling requirements associated with traditional handset stone, whilst also benefiting from the off-site fabrication of what is a significant element of the building. The panels are typically 6.7m in length and 4m high, enabling rapid enclosure of the building envelope.
The project is being managed according to an 'Alliance Protocol Agreement', as was the previous development. Instead of a main contractor, the client and architect work with teams responsible for working in an open and supportive manner on different aspects of the construction process, in order to deliver the overall project effectively and efficiently.
On the ROB project, Trent Concrete has worked closely with the client's representatives nd Alliance Partners, The Austin Company Architects and Harry Peers Steelwork Ltd, to deliver the interface of steel and precast to suit the project aesthetic requirements and construction sequence.
