Trent Concrete wins accolades at The Concrete Society Awards

Trent Concrete has won The Concrete Society & British Precast Concrete Federation Award for Excellence in Precast Concrete, and a Concrete Society Certificate of Excellence, for its precast cladding work at Clearwater Court, the Thames Water eadquarters in Reading.

Trent's structural precast solution for the new North Stand at Ipswich Town Football Club was also commended at last week's Concrete Society Awards. Trent Concrete's reconstructed stone cladding is a focal point of the Clearwater Court building, and fulfils the client's requirements for a robust, unostentatious design. The radiussed elevations of the façade are in mullion and spandrel format, featuring extensively up to four floors and at roof/plant room level. Other sections, such as cores to the atrium and end lift shafts, adopt a wall panel scheme with false joints to replicate the spandrel and mullion features, and achieve aesthetic continuity. In total, 5700m2 of light Portland Stone coloured cladding, with a rubbed surface finish, was produced.

Commenting on Trent's work, the judges described the cladding as "beautifully made and detailed" and "clean and crisp, good jointing".

At Ipswich Town, Trent produced a series of architectural-quality finished units for the lower and upper tier terraces, staircases, fascias, step blocks and vomitory and spine walls. The mix and finish varied from plain grey ex-mould to sparkling white acid-etched. The judges commented that on the "impressively produced white precast structure" and recognised that it was a "high quality precast project secured in preference to structural steel."
