Trent Concrete produces precast frame for UCE
Trent starts on site this week erecting a precast concrete frame for a new technology institute at the University of Central England (UCE) in Birmingham.
Trent's £943k contract covers 20 columns, 168 beams, 42 stair flights, 3000 m2 hollow core floor, structural screed to the roof, and core walls for lifts and stairwells for this new 5 storey building.
The structural precast units are all self-finished ready to receive paint directly, thus saving a further trade (plastering) and speeding up construction time. Shepherd Construction, the main contractor for the project, specified precast as there was a requirement for the concrete frame to be exposed internally. Aesthetically this could be achieved by the use of precast. Precast frames also offer inherent fire protection.
