Trent cladding specified for Hadley Learning Community, Telford
A Trent Concrete cladding scheme has been specified for the new PFI Hadley Learning Community project in Telford.
Trent's £1.028m contract covers reconstructed stone cladding panels cast in a dark buff concrete, with dual contrasting finishes of shallow and deep acid etched to give the units additional definition. The 3188 square metres of cladding panels are typically in modules 1.5 and 3 metres wide, varying in height from 3 to 6.9 metres. In addition, Trent is producing 356 linear metres of 300mm high fascia panels and 842 linear metres of 200mm high plinth units, both typically 4.5m long.
Precast was specified to help meet the tight programme times on this project, and to overcome shortages in traditional on-site labour such as bricklaying, whilst ensuring a high quality finish and robust material.
Trent starts on site in July on a 22 week programme, and the Learning Community is due to open in September 2006. It will comprise a primary and secondary school, a special school for children with profound and multiple learning difficulty, a children's centre and a range of community learning, sports and arts facilities.
