High-quality precast specified for another high-profile retail development

Following on from its work on The Mailbox and Martineau Place, Birmingham, the Cornerhouse, Nottingham, and The Trafford Centre, Manchester, Trent Concrete's high-quality precast concrete has been specified on another prestigious retail centre: the 26 acre new BullRing development in Birmingham.

Trent's contract covers 2500 square metres of natural Italian Pietra Etrusca and Indian red sandstone faced units, with complementary areas of matching reconstructed stone. The wide variety of units includes large flank wall panels, spandrels, mullions, column casings, cills, copings and window surrounds to all primary elevations. Developers, architects and contractors are increasingly recognising the virtues of using precast concrete on such high profile retail developments. Precast delivers value for money, certainty of quality, cost and programme, and significant buildability benefits. Trent starts erecting units on site in January 2002, at the £500m new BullRing development.

Scheduled to open in Autumn 2003, the new BullRing includes major department stores for Selfridges and Debenhams, and is bringing over 100 additional new shops, restaurants and cafés to Birmingham. Designed with traditional streets, walkways and public open spaces, the new BullRing will become an integral part of the city, connecting New Street and High Street with the markets, St Martins Church and Digbeth beyond.
