Trent Concrete to start work on Sheffield apartment development

Trent Concrete is soon to start work on site erecting the cladding at a high quality apartment development on Tenter Street in Sheffield.

Trent's £704k contract includes: 625 m2 storey-height wall panels in spandrel and mullion format to the flank walls at the end of the 13 storey building; 600 linear metres of storey-height column facings; and 1630 linear metres of slender horizontal fascia bands running around the building in front of the floor slabs and balcony edges.

All the units are cast in a white acid-etched reconstructed stone to resemble Portland Stone, and combine with the other façade elements of glass and curtain walling. Under a separate £60k contract last year Trent supplied 12 structural feature columns in the same finish for incorporation into the main structure of the building.

Axis Architecture specified a crisp white concrete finish to provide the clean modernist lines that were felt to be appropriate in an area of Sheffield dominated by high-rise structures. Tenter Street is located in St Vincent's Quarter, an area close to the commercial centre of Sheffield earmarked for mixed-use regeneration.

Working closely with structural engineers Capita Symonds, Trent developed the design to enable a cost-effective, fast track construction programme.

This is the latest in a series of recent contracts that Trent has secured in the urban residential sector, where precast is gaining increasing recognition. The key benefits precast delivers for this market are: the guaranteed quality and accuracy of finish befitting the high-profile nature of the developments; the certainty of programme and cost which are top priorities when apartments are often sold 'off plan'; and the minimisation of site work and disruption which is so important for city centre residential developments.
