Glossary F Terms

Factory

Trent has over 10,000 square metres of production buildings to fabricate moulds, reinforcement for casting and finishing. The factory site also includes the offices and laboratory. View location map.

False Joints

Large areas of reconstructed stone type finishes benefit from the use of false joints to break down plain flat surfaces.

Fenestration

The inclusion of windows, or the appearance of windows, in a façade.

FES – Fabric Energy Storage

The use of the thermal capacity of a precast concrete structure to attenuate the daily peak temperatures by up to 5°C. This reduces or removes the need for conventional air conditioning.

Finishes

Thousands of self finishes and applied finishes are available. Refer to the sample library.

Finishing

The physical/mechanical process of creating surface finishes on production units, which replicates the approved samples for a project.

Fire Protection

Concrete has high inherent fire resistance. In addition, we provide other measures, such as fire stopping at panel/floor intersections.

Fittings

The terms for both cast-in and loose items, invariably in stainless steel, used to secure components to a supporting structure. The fittings are listed on a kit list.

Fixing

The process of erecting precast structures and cladding panels on site. (See erection).

Flashings

A tray or DPM/DPC to direct water out of a cavity.

Friction

Low friction washers are used in restraint fixings, remote from the bearing point, to allow movement in the panel and supporting structure, whilst avoiding stressing either.
