Glossary E Terms
Edge Distance
The load capacity of cast in fixings may be reduced when the fitting is close to an edge. Our engineers will apply appropriate reduction factors in such cases.
Egan (Sir John)
In July 1998, Sir John Egan published a report, "Rethinking Construction", which identified key areas of efficiency improvement for construction. The report has led to significant changes in procurement and supply chain management, particularly for the appointment of specialist contractors.
Engineer
Trent has an in-house engineering department.
Environment
Precast concrete and prefabrication delivers many environmental benefits, including shorter construction time, fewer traffic movements, less dust and noise, far less waste and achieves close to zero defects.
Erection
The physical process of off-loading a unit from the trailer and attaching to the structure. Trent manages delivery to site on a just-in-time basis so that the component can be lifted directly into its final position.
Estimate
Budget estimating is part of our pre-contract service, alongside our formal tendering procedure.
Etched
A reconstructed stone finish using a dilute hydrochloric acid to remove the surface laitence.
Export
Trent is currently engaged upon an export programme to broaden the market base throughout Europe.
Exposed Aggregate
Surface washing and face down retarders are used to produce a textured finish by exposing approximately 1 ? of the depth of the main aggregate. Grit blasting is also used as a variation on the theme.
Edge Guard Rails
Protection assembled to protect site erection team members.
